Every team hits a ceiling eventually. Things get clunky. Progress slows. What worked before doesn’t work anymore. It’s frustrating, and it feels personal.
2024 was one of those years for us—our third ceiling moment in 15 years. Unsurprisingly, it’s not easy building a business for the long run!
So we hit the reset button:
Here’s what changed, and what it means for you.
Previous editions: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2009, and 2008.
How we’re breaking through
For years, we championed talking to customers over staring at dashboards. It worked… until it didn’t.
As our tools, processes, and product offerings grew, so did complexity. Decisions became harder. Patterns got murky. By mid-2024, we realized we couldn’t feel our way forward anymore.
So, we made a shift: Data wouldn’t replace customer conversations—it would complement them.
Now, metrics guide us where intuition can’t. They help us see patterns faster, make smarter decisions, and serve you better—all while staying true to our roots of listening first.
Internally, we embraced more structure. Historically, we avoided rigid goals, believing flexibility was enough. But as time passed, that created confusion and stagnation.
With EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), we’ve added structure to bring clarity and alignment while keeping the flexibility we value.
Both shifts were hard but necessary. Growth isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters.
What we changed
A Balsamiq that works like you do
You’ve told us speed and simplicity are everything. So we upgraded the editor with:

Templates that save you hours
We overhauled our templates to make common tasks easier:

Revenue & projections
Our 2024 revenue clocked in at $6.58M USD, a 6% dip from 2023.
This was expected and close to last year’s forecast. We retired Balsamiq Wireframes for Google Drive and began winding down Desktop. This helps us focus on what matters most: Balsamiq Cloud and Atlassian integrations for Jira and Confluence.

2024 also brought challenges in the market. A UX competitor shut down, and others struggled to adapt in the face of AI. We remain optimistic about our niche and the impact Balsamiq has on lean product teams.
For 2025, we’re forecasting another slight, intentional dip with profitability intact. This is about the long game: building a stronger, simpler Balsamiq to serve you better.
Three lessons we're taking into 2025
Every ceiling moment is an opportunity to rethink, refocus, and grow. Here’s what’s guiding us this year:
- Prune to grow: Progress often comes from letting go. The tools, processes, or projects that worked before might be holding you back now.
- Clarity beats complexity: A simple wireframe can align teams faster than a polished deck. Start with what’s clear; the details will follow.
- Intuition needs insight: Trust your instincts, and pair them with data for smarter, faster decisions. It’s like improv: “Yes, and…”
What's next?
You can expect a more modern look and feel, more templates, and long-awaited features in 2025.
